In order to sign up to Spot, you need to ensure you have your South African ID, driver's license, or valid passport handy.
Once you have downloaded the Spot app, you can follow the below steps to help you sign up:
- Enter your South African cellphone number (For now, only South African mobile numbers will be registered) and email address.
- Enter the OTP that will be SMSed to you.
- You will now need to create a 4-digit secret PIN and re-enter to confirm
- remember this pin - it's the one you will use every time you log in to the app going forward.
- Next, you will need to fill in some basic information details, namely:
- First Name
- Last Name
- ID Number
- Your Job Description (what you do for work)
- Your Home Address
- Lastly, you will need to verify your account - start by tapping to accept the T&Cs, then scan your South African ID / driver's license / valid passport, and take a few selfies to complete a liveness check – that’s it.
As a mobile money app, Spot is legally required to verify your details in line with FICA (Financial Intelligence Centre Act) to successfully validate that you are who you say you are. Besides the legality behind it, this action that we take keeps fraudsters away and your account and cash safe.
