How do I verify my details?

Great job on signing up for Spot! Now, let's quickly verify your details using FICA. We use GBG identity verification to check your South African Green ID, Smart ID, driver’s license, passport, and face. These are compared to the Department of Home Affairs records to confirm it’s really you.


  1. Here’s how to verify your identity:
  2. Open the Spot app and sign in.
  3. Tap your profile picture in the top-right corner.
  4. Select the Get Verified button.
  5. Scan your SA Green ID, Smart ID, driver’s license, or passport, and complete the liveness check.


Tips for the verification process:


  • Make sure the ID/Passport number you enter matches exactly what’s on your document and is registered with Home Affairs.
  • Take photos in natural light for the clearest image (avoid fluorescent lights).
  • Turn off your phone’s flash to prevent glare.
  • Lay your document flat on a surface.
  • Align your document with the app’s borders, and the app will automatically capture the photo.
  • If the photo isn’t capturing, adjust your phone position, tap the screen to focus, and check for any blur or glare.
  • Avoid taking a picture of a picture.

Liveness check tips:


  • Position your face within the frame.
  • Keep the camera still and move your head slightly.
  • Avoid big movements.
