- Sign in to your Spot app.

- Tap "Bank Card" under the "Add Money" section.
- Choose the card you want to use. If your card isn't linked yet, select "Link a bank card" to add it.
- Enter the amount you'd like to add.
- Pick the Spot account where you want the money to go, then tap "Next."
- Check your details and enter the CVV (the 3 numbers on the back of your card).
- Tap "Confirm" and enter your 3D-Secure code.
- Once your transaction is successful, you'll see a confirmation screen.
Why is there a fee for top-ups with a linked card?
Spot gets charged a fee whenever money is added to your account, and these fees can vary. Topping up with a linked bank card or credit card costs us more than using EFT.
But with Spot, you pay no monthly account fees. We cover the costs for EFT, Ozow Instant EFT, or salary deposits. Plus, we offer one free top-up per month with a linked card, up to R1,000. After that, we charge a 3% fee to cover the cost of the transaction.
For more information, check out our Fees and Limits page.
Why is my linked card top-up failing?
If your top-up isn't working, don't worry – here are a few tips to help:
- Check your internet connection: A stable connection is essential for a successful transaction. If the internet is weak or you close the payment window early, the transaction might fail.
- Complete 3D Secure Authentication: For your security, we ask you to complete a 3D-Secure verification. If this step is skipped or your internet connection is unstable, the transaction won’t go through. Wait 10 minutes and try again if needed.
- Ensure you have enough funds: Double-check your card balance and the top-up amount to make sure there’s enough money to complete the transaction.
